Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships

Breckenridge Snow Sculptures

Witness the talents of some amazing artists during the International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge. For 2016, sculpting begins on January 26th and the event concludes on February 7th.

Since 1991, the championships have brought gorgeous works of snow art to Riverwalk Center in Breck. During the competition, the area will also host the Ice Village, which features intricate ice castles and sculptures.

Schedule of Events

January 18 – 23 – Technical Week: During this week, all the huge blocks of snow are gathered, built, and then given time to compress under their own weight. It’s this process that provides each artist with a usable and consistent medium for their sculptures.

January 26 – 30 – Sculpting Week: A shotgun start will signal the beginning of this phase at 11 a.m. on the 26th. Artists sculpt their huge blocks of snow using only hand tools. They will continue until 10 a.m. on the 30th, when all sculptures must be finished. Throughout this week, head to Riverwalk Center to watch the artists work and see how the blocks evolve into art.

January 30 – February 7 – Viewing Week: The finished snow sculptures will be on display for all to see. You can even cast your People’s Choice vote for your favorite sculpture for just $1 prior to February 1st. When the evening of February 7th rolls around, though, the sculptures will be removed. So make sure you take the time to see them before they’re gone!
